Mod Squad Challenge--Wood

Hi crafters, we are back today for another challenge. This challenge is brought to you by the Mod Squad blog. If you click over to the right side bar, you'll see their button. Click on it, and you can join in on the fun. This week's challenge has been to create a card with wood pieces on it. I think I've met that requirement.

On a side note, the card pictured up above may seem out of sorts but it's really not, it's just the best that I could do with cropping it. So I apologize. Here's the original photo below.

Let's begin by talking about what I did for this card. I first cut an A2 card out from a mint green card stock paper. Then, I cut a slightly smaller piece of paper from a different card stock pack. I began by working on the smaller piece of yellow card stock paper, first. I wanted to make sure my design would work. I decided to use a cut oval that I bought in a bag of cut ovals and odd shapes of paper, that make for the perfect focal point with the sentiment across it.

The first thing I did with the oval was to use the Gina K. Designs "Fresh Asparagus" ink. I used a dauber sponge and applied it doing it in a circular motion across the oval to match the roseate. Then, on top of the oval, I used a gold metallic gel glitter pen and outlined the grooves with it. Finally, I stamped the sentiment on the oval using the Gina K Designs stamp set, "Green Thumb Divs." I used the sentiment "Just Because."

I am beginning to make some "any day" type of cards for a group of ladies from my Sunday School class at church. I'm the record keeper and like to send cards to the ladies that visit our class for the first time, or for those in need. So this is my ministry that I am involved in with these cards. The ladies love them.

So the next thing I did had been to go to the Ac Moore store, where I had purchased a small pack of wooden miscellaneous pieces. I used the one with the roseate on it. It came with the adhesive attached to it, which I so loved. Then, I also purchased a packet of wooden buttons from a miscellaneous wood pack. I used the plain wooden button on top of the oval card stock. Then, I took a pink flower I had and placed it on top. Finally, I put a light pink bead on top of the flower because otherwise it was too flat.

Lastly, I put ribbon across the card itself. I used one green shinning piece of ribbon, and used it in the center of the three pieces. I then used two pieces of a bold pink of ribbon.

This card was obviously easy to make, and didn't take much time making it all. The most time was spent on the layout. This card is perfect to send to one of my sweet ladies who may in need of some encouragement for the week.

So, this is the gest of this card project and has been entered into the weekly challenge. YAY! Wish me luck to win! Hopefully, this card will have brought you some new insights of learning and how to's for card making. Until next time....remember to God first in everything.

CAS Challenge--Dresses

I'm so excited about showing you guys the new stamp sets that I finally got this month. I had ordered them around Christmas, but due to the bad weather up north, it took a while for them to ship. Obviously, I was thrilled to see them finally arrive. I have ordered some more this month too. I can hardly wait to receive them. So, come back and see all my new creations real soon. If you wouldn't mind following my blog, I'd really appreciate that too. Thank you.

MOVING ON.....

Today, I'm showing you one of those stamp sets I received. This is one of my favorites that I have gotten so far. Although, I am sure I'll have more along the way! So, I can't be too partial. LOL!

This is the set that I purchased. Isn't it adorable?

Now, more about the project....

On my card, I used two different embossing folders. For the front of the card base, I used a dotted embossing folder, and I put the flower embossing folder across the entire top piece.

I used the Gina K Designs Ink Pad set "Black Onyx" to stamp the card. In between the two embossing folders, I placed a piece of black and white scrap book paper underneath. This gave a layered look to the card. Which I absolutely love--the layered look.

I also put a piece of black polka-dotted ribbon at the bottom to tie it all together. Then, the final step was to put some black pearl beads on top of the words.

I hope you enjoyed this card, and perhaps learned something while here. There are endless things to do with a card in the stamping world. Many new techniques to learn. I will admit, I have a hard time doing these types of challenges. I love bling all over my cards. A card just doesn't feel completed until I have some kind of gems on top of them. So that's why this weekly challenge from Gina K. Designs challenges was so hard for me to do. So tell me what you think? Do you love or hate doing a CAS card? Thank you for stopping by.

Spring- Thank you -Sweet Friends

This card is a new card and part of the "Shine" challenge of the weekly Gina K. card challenge. The object of the card is to make it shine as best as possible.

I did a layering card for this project. I also used a Darice embossing folder to do the blue background paper. I used a piece of a larger piece of card stock paper and cut the edging off it off to create that border piece. I loved how it looked on the card. I think the embossing on the back of it really brings that piece of paper out.

I think took another scrap piece of white card stock paper, and cut a small piece off to use for the sentiment. I used a Fiskars corner tool to punch on two sides. Then, I used the Gina K. Designs Stamp Set, "Sweet Friends" on that sentiment.

I used the "Fresh Asparagus" ink stamp for the sentiment. Then, I put 3 pink pearl beads on each corner, for my shine.

This is a pretty simple card to make, and took no time whatsoever to make it. This card could be done in about thirty minutes or so.

Butterfly--Shaped Challenge

This week, I am a participant in the Gina K. Designs weekly card challenge. This time around the challenge had been to create a shaped card. I have never done this before until now. So it had definitely been a challenge!

The first thing I did was to decide which shape I would make it. I began looking through all of my cartridges, and decided to use the "Pink Journey" cartridge. I really liked how this butterfly was made. It's much different than most of the other cartridges I've seen or used. That's why I picked it.

I cut this butterfly at 4 1/2 inches wide. The first cut had holes inside of the design itself. This feature I really liked. In the process I decided to cut a second butterfly, only this time, I cut the shadow feature. This enabled me to have a solid background.

Once cutting the butterfly, I then glued the two together.

I will say that I had wished I had thought about it a little closer before started, or else I would have done the dauber part first. I used the dauber sponge to dab the ink across and around the holes on the card. Don't think that is the correct way or correct technique to call it, but that's what I know.
This way, I didn't have to worry about if I got into the hole areas or not. So, that is why I wished I had done this particular part a little different. But nevertheless, it all turned out just fine.

After the butterfly pieces had been glued down, I had to decide which color and which color to go with that color. I thought that a gold and purple color would be very pretty together. I used the ink pad sets from Gina K. Designs. Specifically, I used the "Honey Mustard" color. This is the golden color you see.

As I said prior, I used a dauber tool technique to rub it across the paper as best as I could, as not to mess with the other sections of the butterfly.

Once that was completed, I picked a purple glitter gel pen, this really makes this card gorgeous and pop when held in the light. The glitter really does stands out against the golden color.

After this, I had to decide where I'd put the sentiment. I used the "Give A Hoot" cricut cartridge. I used a solid charm. I only cut it at 1'. It fit the sentiment perfectly. I used the sentiment "A Happy Hello" and this sentiment is from the "Dreams Take Flight" stamp set.

I used the ink pad set "Black Onyx" for the sentiment. I also used the "Honey Mustard" ink pad set to do the dauber technique to the charm. This made it match the card itself perfectly.

To hold the charm to the card, I used a golden brad to put it into place. Then to finalize the card, I put some golden beads across the bottom and top of the butterfly.

In order to make it a flip card, I took a piece of golden card stock paper, and folded it in half. Then, I took my butterfly and traced it onto that sheet of paper. I then took a pair of scissors and cut it out.

Afterwards, I glued it all together. This completed my project. It's not a hard thing to do and turns out to be a gorgeous card if done correctly.

Thanks again for stopping by and taking a moment to glance at my newest project. I hope in some way it will bless you. I also hope that in some way you have learned something new.

If you wouldn't mind, please leave your comments below. This helps me to know how to reach my readers better, and what you enjoy most about my work. So, would this be something you'd make to?

Just A Little Note....

This card had been fun to create. I used a pack of card stock that I purchased a while back, and hadn't had a project to use it on until this challenge came up. I'm so excited about getting back into the challenges. I have missed doing this a lot. I used a brown card stock paper for the background. Then, I cut slits on paper that I made to put the stamp on. The stamp itself, I purchased from Joann's craft store.

I used two different colored strips of ribbon across the bottom. I also used different colored buttons to filter in between each of the spots along the card stock. This card can be used for a male or female card. I love that about this card.

Many of the inks I use are from the Gina K Designs Ink Sets. I also use many of the stamps, but in the case, I chose to use a stamp I rarely get to use. That is the one neat thing about this particular challenge, you are not stuck with certain products to participate. I love that with this challenge.

On that note, I will say that many of Gina K Design products are really good products. So if you do get the opportunity to purchase them, I'd highly recommend it. Also, she offers many tutorial videos on how to make wonderful cards. I have learned so much from her cards and techniques. I've grown along the way!
